Thank you!

The people who read this blog are really cool. Not only have you left a ton of very nice comments about my childhood Disneyland photos, but you have also provided lots of information to me about exactly where they were taken. But Jason (aka Progressland) has really come through.

Below please find a couple of 1982 snapshots of the Snack Shack, the very spot where my family and I ate in that photo featured in my last post. The umbrellas seem to have been changed, but otherwise, it's the same. I have no memory of a restaurant being in this location, but that's why you blogging friends are so valuable...you take people's subjective and foggy memories and verify them with hard evidence.

Thanks so much, Jason!

I don't believe I'v seen a shot like that of the Charachter Food Stand before...Very nice.

Also interesting to note that the Carousel is already in its new location from the 82-83 Fantasyland re-do.

Walterworld, these photos are from September 1982--just before the whole area in the foreground was torn up.

Jason has all the super pics! Thanks Jason! Hey I remember waiting in line for a long time at "fan 2" during that time when there was no "fan 1". Nothing like waiting 20 minutes for a greasy burger and soggy fries!

Yes, I've seen some of Jason's other pictures from this batch. You should see his "tilt shift" experiment, it's fabulous... I'm going to try it myself on the one taken from the top of the Matterhorn.

You gotta admire the unique dedication people have to Disneyland.

It's really a great thing.

Hey Jason, That second picture sure looks the Carousel is in its new position? I realize these are from before the Fantasyland redo and yes it looks like the old Carousel housing.

But it sure seems a lot more “north” than its original location? Check Google earth, its current location lines up almost perfect with this 9/82 photo (in relation to the Mr. Toad building and Monstro). Is it possible he Carousel was temporarily moved “north” during construction then finished later with the new housing? Thanks!

Tim, yeah, one of the first things they did was to rip out the Mad Tea Party and move the Carrousel north. It actually reopened for a time, and then was closed again when they really went to town in September 1982.

Wow---Would have been neat to have ridden the old-style carousel in the new location for that short period between the intial move and the rest of the re-do...

It was fun to read Vintage Disneyland Tickets' comment referring to this food stand as "Fan 2," which it was, in internal Disneyland Operations-speak, for a very long time after the demise of "Fan 1." It made a lot of new people wonder, I'll bet! Also remembered from this location: following the 1973 release of the animated "Robin Hood," the menu was re-themed a bit, and through the rest of the 1970s (and a bit beyond) "Fan 2" was home to the delicious "Little John Burger--" not to mention the ever-popular "Nottingham Spuds!"
