Two (2) Disneyland Catalogs and a Diatribe

In a belated celebration of Matterhorn's tremendous recent postings of Main Street photos, here is a one-page catalog of the Pen Shop. Check out the corny jokes....the Jungle Cruise must not have been hiring that day.

Here's another catalog postmarked 1957, but I think it may be from 1956. Lots of GREAT souvenirs at very competitive prices!

More catalogs to come. I have a bunch from the Main Street stores.

And now...a diatribe. I took the family to Disneyland on Sunday, and I have to say: Toon Town is a dump. The restrooms are beyond disgusting, the "attractions" are not attractive, and the whole thing needs to be shut down for six months so they can repaint. And who the hell is "Gadget"? Isn't he a character from a TV cartoon that was cancelled 6 years ago? Even the Roger Rabbit ride manages a deadly equation: blah ride + endless line = no thank you. The only redeeming factor is that my kids like it, but man, it depresses and frustrates me.

End of diatribe.

Great catalogs, especailly the second one. Toontown is getting pretty overplayed. Gadget was the female chipmunk who was part of Chip and Dale's Rescue Rangers in the 1990s. Maybe the new Disneyland boss can throw some money towards Toon Town to update or at least refresh the paint in that area.

Wow, I thought that Toontown had finally received fresh paint and other care, but obviously wear and tear continue to take their toll. It's so sad that the Disney folks can't even manage to keep the restrooms clean (and that people are such slobs!!!).

I had to take my 5-year old daughter to the restroom in the Toon Town gas station, and if it hadn't been an "emergency" I would have walked out. It looked more like a real gas station restroom than a Disneyland gas station restroom. I'll leave it at that...use your imagination.

As the turnover rates at the parks increases, the restrooms get worse and worse. There are only maybe 2 places in the whole park that I will even bother to check because they are usually all so terribly maintained. But as Major Pepperidge said, why are people such slobs?

Also, the catalogs are great! And I spied one of my own collectibles in there (Tinker Bell & Castle cup and saucer set). :)

actually, Gadget was a mouse, not a chipmunk.

It's been years since I've been to Disneyland, last time I was in Toontown, my son was 3 - which was 12 years ago. It certainly wasn't as bad as the descriptions here, that is very sad.

I was always impressed with how clean Disneyland was - the place was amazing. I hope it's maintained that, it would be sad to think it's getting like Pacific Ocean Park or the Pike before they closed...
